Ohio Wesleyan University has received $15,000 from the Ohio Campus Community Partnership (OCCP) to launch the Bishop Mental Health Certificate Program, a new campus initiative that will prepare faculty, staff, and students to recognize behavioral health concerns and connect OWU community members with support.<\/p>\n
Through the program, faculty, staff, and students can earn an Advocate or Ambassador certification by completing training such as QPR (suicide prevention) and Mental Health First Aid. The goal is simple: Help more Bishops recognize when a friend, classmate, or student needs support, and know where exactly to turn.<\/p>\n
The program’s first cohort will include at least 15 students, 5 faculty members, and 5 staff members, who will become trained points of connection across residence halls, classrooms, and campus life.<\/p>\n
“We know students are far more likely to turn to a friend or a professor than to seek out formal support on their own,” said Leana Froehlich-Terry, Director of Counseling Services. “This program helps make sure that whoever a student turns to first is ready to help them take the next step.”<\/p>\n
The initiative is led by Ohio Wesleyan’s Counseling Services team, including Director Leana Froehlich-Terry and Assistant Director Cheston Gray, in partnership with the Division of Community Wellness.<\/p>\n
