Colvin&#8217;s fellowship, funded by a GLCA grant, will span the 2026-2028 academic years and support her work as an assistant director in Ohio Wesleyan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/smith-center-for-faculty-excellence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/smith-center-for-faculty-excellence\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1768505992254000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0qX_IT1-J4YgWwxOsoM-DD\">Smith Center for Faculty Excellence,<\/a>\u00a0the university&#8217;s newly elevated hub for faculty development and teaching innovation.\u00a0<strong>Expanding the Smith Center&#8217;s Impact<\/strong>\u00a0Working with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/academic-affairs\/staff\/barb-bird\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/academic-affairs\/staff\/barb-bird\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1768505992254000&amp;usg=AOvVaw015xRY4lS7xRkcQaIUof_K\">Barbara Bird, Ph.D.,<\/a>\u00a0director of the Smith Center, Colvin will design and lead initiatives that deepen teaching excellence across the university, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Workshops focused on innovative and inclusive teaching practices<\/li>\n<li>Expanded humanities faculty and student participation in Ohio Wesleyan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/academic-affairs\/academic-resources\/summer-scholarship-and-research-program-ssrp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.owu.edu\/about\/offices-services-directory\/academic-affairs\/academic-resources\/summer-scholarship-and-research-program-ssrp\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1768505992254000&amp;usg=AOvVaw16XuepPE4n7iOlk0I0peOT\">Summer Scholarship and Research Program<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Two faculty mentoring initiatives for first-year and pre-tenure faculty<\/li>\n<li>A Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project supporting faculty in studying and strengthening their own teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Strategic Investment in Faculty Excellence<\/strong>\u00a0Ohio Wesleyan announced the Smith Center for Faculty Excellence in October 2025, following a $10 million philanthropic commitment from\u00a0<strong>Katherine Boles Smith<\/strong>, OWU Class of 1971, and\u00a0<strong>Alton Smith<\/strong> of Raleigh, North Carolina. Colvin, who joined Ohio Wesleyan&#8217;s faculty in 2009, is an associate professor of Spanish, chair of the Department of World Languages &amp; Cultures, and director of the Latin American and Latine Studies Program. As a GLCA Academic Leadership Fellow, she will collaborate with faculty leaders from nine other GLCA member institutions.
