This grant will support Dr. Kaka&#8217;s work to enhance preservice teachers&#8217; capacity to teach using primary sources. By engaging preservice teachers, cooperating teachers, and teacher educators in a sustained cycle of professional development, instructional design, and classroom implementation, this project addresses the critical need for accessible, time-efficient, inquiry based social student instruction rooted in the use of primary sources.<\/p>\n<p>As lead Principal Investigator, Dr. Kaka will collaborate with colleagues from the University of Akron, Kent State University, University of Cincinnati, Otterbein, and University of Toledo\u2014significantly expanding the project&#8217;s impact across Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Research outcomes from the project will be widely disseminated including at the Ohio Council for the Social Studies Annual conference. An open-access digital archive hosted by OWU\u2019s Education Department website will allow broader adoption and adaption to teachers in K-12 classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>This Library of Congress grant highlights OWU&#8217;s leadership in developing research that responds to society&#8217;s educational needs in these challenging times. The award is sponsored in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Midwest Region Program, located at Illinois State University<\/p>\n<p>OWU&#8217;s Department of Education offers diverse teaching preparation programs spanning early childhood through high school, blending liberal arts foundations with cutting-edge educational theory and hands-on experience.
