Kragalott Lecture on Human Rights, Genocide &amp; Mass Atrocity (HIST)<\/b>, and\u00a0<b>The B.F. Marsh Lecture on Political Affairs (PG)\u00a0<\/b>are collaborating to present a lecture and panel discussion. \u00a0 On\u00a0<b>Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in Merrick Hall 301<\/b>, the departments will host the lecture, &#8220;<b>Refusing Death: Immigrant Women of Color on Environmental Racism and Classism&#8221;<\/b>\u00a0delivered by\u00a0<b>Nadia Kim, Ph.D.<\/b>\u00a0This lecture is\u00a0<b>free and open to the public<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/artsci.tamu.edu\/sociology\/people\/profiles\/nadia-kim.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/artsci.tamu.edu\/sociology\/people\/profiles\/nadia-kim.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738861784937000&amp;usg=AOvVaw34M8GLMwL6nY2EgWu6HviD\">Nadia Kim,<\/a>\u00a0professor of Sociology, holds the George Sumey Jr. Professorship in Liberal Arts at Texas A&amp;M University.\u00a0\u00a0Her research focuses on US race and citizenship injustices concerning Korean\/Asian Americans, South Koreans, and Latinx immigrants, and on fights against environmental racism\/classism (esp. by women) and on comparative racialization of Latinxs and Asian and Black Americans. Throughout her work, Kim\u2019s approach centers (neo)imperialism, transnationality, and intersectionality.\u00a0\u00a0For her book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sup.org\/books\/title\/?id=24059\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.sup.org\/books\/title\/?id%3D24059&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738861784937000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2lzmdborNFh4ypxg7q2H-H\">Refusing Death<\/a>\u00a0(NYU, 2021), Kim received the 2023 Eduardo Bonilla-Silva Outstanding Book Award (Society for the Study of Social Problems), the 2023 Distinguished Scholarship Award (The Pacific Sociological Association), the 2023 Outstanding Achievement in the Social Sciences Book Award (Association of Asian American Studies) and an Honorable Mention, Best Publication Award (American Sociological Association).\u00a0 Kim is also the author of the award-winning book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sup.org\/books\/title\/?id=8887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.sup.org\/books\/title\/?id%3D8887&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738861784937000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2rEp9hRB2IEKK5UrvJD9gF\">Imperial Citizens<\/a> (SUP, 2008), and has numerous award-winning journal articles.<\/p>\n<p>The following day,\u00a0<b>Thursday, February 20, 2025, at noon\u00a0<\/b>in\u00a0<b>Merrick Hall 301,\u00a0<\/b>the departments will host a panel discussion, &#8220;<b>The Intersection of Environmental and Racial Justice&#8221;\u00a0<\/b>which will include\u00a0<b>Nadia Kim, Ph.D.<\/b>\u00a0joining local panelists,<b>\u00a0Laurie Anderson, Ph.D. (Professor of OWU Biological Sciences), Jen Miller (Executive Director, League of Women Voters of Ohio), and Ashley Toenjes, Ph.D. (Professor of OWU Environment &amp; Sustainability)\u00a0<\/b>to further discuss the presented lecture information.\u00a0 This discussion is\u00a0<b>free and open to the public<\/b>.\u00a0We hope that you will be able to attend these exciting events!<\/p>\n<p><strong>OWU Sponsoring Organization\/Office:<\/strong>\u00a0History, Politics &amp; Government, Sociology &amp; Anthropology Departments<br \/>\n<strong>Contact:<\/strong>\u00a0Deb Lovell at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:soan@owu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">soan@owu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year,\u00a0The B.A. Jones Lecture on Race &amp; Society (SOAN),\u00a0The R.
