Plans are underway for OWU’s 43rd OWjL summer camp, and director Josie Bair is excited to announce $7,000 in operational funding has been granted from the David and Catherine Erickson Fund, Amos Family Donor Advised Fund, and the Robert Weiler Family Fund through the Delaware County Foundation. “OWjL is designed to meet the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted and talented middle school students,” Bair said. “The three-weeklong residential camp on our campus offers a place for students to learn new ideas, be challenged, and interact with others who have similar abilities. It is gratifying to receive this support from families who value the wide array of classes that we offer and the transformational experience for our campers.”
Each year, over 450 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders descend upon OWU’s campus, live in residence halls, eat in dining halls, and choose from over 50 classes in mathematics, logic, computing, science, humanities, and creative development. Middle school camp will be held June 10 – 14, June 17 – 21, and June 24 – 28, 2024. For the first time, campers in grades 4 and 5 will be invited to attend a day camp from July 22 – 26, 2024. Campers are nominated by principals, guidance counselors, or teachers and are taught by OWU faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as national board-certified secondary school teachers, teachers of gifted and talented students, and other experts in their fields. OWU students serve as course mentors and residence hall advisors. Registration for this year’s camp opened December 1, 2023. Initial requests for consideration at the 2024 summer camp must be completed by a parent/guardian. OWjL camp applications can be found here.
