Crews began work on July 20 to install ground-mounted solar panels as part of OWU’s solar energy initiative. Wildflower gardens will be planted under the ground arrays, and the areas will be fenced for safety.
In the fall, crews will begin installing carport canopies in 7 parking lots across campus. When the 10,400+ solar panels begin producing energy in fall 2027, they are projected to produce 8.2 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, enabling OWU to reduce its carbon emissions from electrical power consumption by approximately 82%.
