Help Your Student Get Organized!

Hi Parents, last month we sent an email to all students about free tools to help them get organized, track upcoming tasks, and view important academic deadlines. Please encourage your student(s) to use these tools, as it will help them be successful at OWU! Full message included below.

Ohio Wesleyan students,

Have you made full use of your Google Calendar and Google Tasks to improve your organization and time management? These tools are a part of your OWU Google account, and can help you visualize your academic commitments and stay on top of your coursework.

Using Google Calendar for Your Class Schedule and Academic Calendar

Importing your class schedule into Google Calendar is the first step toward better time management. By blocking out your class times, you get a clear visual representation of your week. This makes it easier to:

  • Avoid Scheduling Conflicts: When planning club meetings, group projects, or appointments with faculty, you can quickly see when you are available.

  • Plan Study Time: You can block out dedicated time for studying, library visits, and working on assignments, treating these commitments with the same importance as your classes.

Next Steps:

  1. Import your class schedule easily using this app!

  2. Import the Academic Calendar so you have all of the important deadlines available at a glance.

    1. Add a calendar > Subscribe to a calendar > pasting the following information:

Staying Organized and Reduce Procrastination with Google Tasks

Google Tasks is a simple to-do list that integrates seamlessly with your Google Calendar. You can use it to track all coursework and assignments.

  • Create Due Dates: Add tasks with specific due dates. You can even click “Add to Tasks” while going through your Inbox to turn an email into a task. Tasks will appear directly on your Google Calendar, giving you a visual reminder of upcoming deadlines.

  • Break Down Projects: For large projects, create subtasks with due dates to break them down into smaller, more manageable steps. This makes big assignments feel less daunting and helps you track your progress.

  • Access Anywhere: Since Google Tasks is connected to your OWU account, you can access your to-do lists from your phone, laptop, or any other device, ensuring you always know what’s next.

Next Steps:

  1. Learn how to use Google Tasks.

  2. Go through your syllabi to create trackable tasks for your coursework and assignments.
