11/13, 7 pm: 35th J.K. Eddy Lecture: “Gaza and America’s Role in the Middle East”

Israel’s war in Gaza following the October 7 attack by Hamas has produced a humanitarian catastrophe with no end in sight, with conflict escalating into Lebanon and reverberating across the broader Middle East. Is it too late for a two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? Can a broader regional war still be averted? How did U.S. policies in the Middle East fail to prevent these disasters, and what can the new administration do to help create a more stable, peaceful and just region? The 35th Annual Eddy Lecture features Marc Lynch, Ph.D. discussing “Gaza and America’s Role in the Middle East” on November 13, 2024 at 7 pm in the Benes Rooms in Hamilton-Williams Campus Center. Dr. Marc Lynch, is an expert in Middle Eastern politics and international relations. He earned his B.A. in Political Science from Duke University and went on to receive his M.A. and Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University. Dr. Lynch teaches at George Washington University, where he also directs the Project on Middle East Political Science (POMEPS). Currently, he is a visiting professor at The Ohio State University.  Ohio Wesleyan’s annual Eddy Lecture honors the life of student “Jeff” Eddy, killed in an automobile accident in 1988.  This lecture is sponsored by the International Studies Program, Politics and Government Dept. and the Sagan National Colloquium supported by the J.K.
