Students have the option of taking the Economics Proficiency Exam offered by the Department of Economics and Business for the possibility of earning ECON 110 credit. The online, proctored exam is offered in June. It is designed for incoming students who have a firm grasp of college-level introductory economics but do not have formal credentials (through expected AP, IB, A-Level exams, or transfer coursework) for automatic ECON 110 credit.
Primary topics covered in the exam are: Demand-supply graphs, marginal cost-benefit calculations, market structure and firm behavior, GDP analysis, inflation and unemployment calculations, and macroeconomic policy tools. ACTION STEP: If you intend to take the exam, then contact Dr. Saif Rahman at msrahman@owu.edu (with the subject line: Economics Proficiency Exam – Registration) by June 5, indicating your intention to take the exam. You should take this step only if you are committed to taking the exam in mid-June and have a good understanding of most of the topics listed above (covering introductory microeconomics and/or macroeconomics).
You will then receive follow-up communication with the online exam location and logistics. Be sure to monitor your OWU email for instructions.
To take the online exam, you will need to have a primary audio/video feed, a clear workspace, and a second device with an alternate-angle video feed. Note: The Economics Proficiency Exam is not a required exam. It is not meant for students who have received or are in the process of receiving ECON 110 credit on the basis of prior credentials. It is also not meant for students who do not have a firm grasp of college-level introductory economics.
