To ensure that students have access to care when they need it and to protect them from high medical costs, all OWU students are required to have health insurance coverage for the 2026–27 academic year. To ensure compliance, a Student Health Insurance Fee of $1,017 will be posted to student accounts when Fall semester billing becomes available in early July. This fee will provide coverage for students through United Healthcare and will use the United Healthcare provider network.
Students with comparable health insurance will have the option to waive this fee, but waiver requests cannot be submitted until the fee appears on the student’s account. Comparable health insurance would include comprehensive coverage that is compliant with the Affordable Care Act and that includes access to healthcare providers in the Delaware, Ohio area. Out-of-state Medicaid and HMO plans are generally not accepted, nor are healthcare sharing plans.
