Thanks to a generous offer from DailyChatter, OWU is now able to offer this international daily newsletter to the OWU campus free of charge. DailyChatter aims to curate some of the most interesting and important global developments and prepare it in a conversational, easy-to-read report. It is digital, independent, as well as non-partisan.
Subscription to this service is entirely free for as long as you are enrolled or employed at OWU. This initiative is part of a new public service DailyChatter has launched with higher education institutions across the country.
To sign up, CLICK HERE or visit the link on the library’s A-Z list. Enter your name and OWU email address and the newsletter will start arriving the next weekday morning. Users can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the bottom of every edition.
This curated collection of 29 documentaries aims to present “under-reported stories of human rights and environmental protection issues in Asia and North America.” In addition to covering a variety of subjects, each documentary is accompanied by a teaching guide, created by the same faculty responsible for curating the collection (Whittier, Yale, Brandeis and NYU Shanghai).
Other highlights of this particular collection include:
- Ability to integrate content into Blackboard or provide permalinks links
- Ability to create playlists and clips
- Closed captioning (for most titles)
- Synchronized transcripts
- Video markups for class presentations
- New content added periodically
Please note that licensing of this collection covers use in-class and for other closed-campus events. These films cannot be shown or advertised outside the OWU learning community.
To learn more about using this new collection, visit the Docuseek2 Help wiki.
For more about providing links or integrating content into Blackboard, visit the Integrating Docuseek2 wiki.

Beginning this semester, materials checked out from the Libraries that are eligible for renewal will now renew automatically, eliminating the need for users to manually initiate the renewal process. This includes materials from OWU, CONSORT, and OhioLINK but does NOT include items borrowed elsewhere through interlibrary loan (ILL) services.
Library users will be sent email messaging regarding these renewals and additional notification when an item finally becomes due. For details about loan periods and the number of renewals allowed on circulating items, visit the Borrow, Renew, Request page on the Libraries’ web site.

Starting December 19th, OhioLINK will be introducing an alternative version of its Central Catalog. Here is what you need to know about the change:
- The new version is called “Encore” and the older version will be referred to as the “Classic Catalog.”
- Encore is an alternative not a replacement of the Central Catalog.
- The OWU and CONSORT Libraries will continue linking to the “classic” version to maintain search functionality and click-through search capabilities from CONSORT to OhioLINK. OhioLINK’s page will default to Encore. A link to the Classic Catalog is available in the upper right corner of Encore if you need to make the switch.
- Which version should you use? Encore is a single-search with facets/options similar to our “Find All” search. The Classic Catalog allows for more controlled and targeted searching including subject searching, OCLC numbers, etc.
Please reach out firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. Our staff will be happy to assist.
Recently, Safari Books Online adopted a new platform, called the O’Reilly Safari Learning Platform. This is a reminder that the final cutover to the new platform is this Friday, December 21st. As of this date, access to the legacy Safari Books Online platform will no longer be available.
All links from the library website, catalog, and Summon have been updated, so you should not encounter any problems if accessing the platform that way. However, please be aware that any links saved before the 2018 fall semester will no longer work.

Starting on Wednesday, October 10th, Safari Ebooks is now Safari O’Reilly. And it includes more than just ebooks! You now also have access to access to video tutorials and self-guided courses on business, programming, and information technology.
Accessing Safari O’Reilly is a little different too. Below is what you’ll see when you find a Safari O’Reilly title in the catalog and click to access.
Find a Safari title in CONSORT, here:
Or in Summon here:
Click on link: “Full text online” or “Connect to…”
If it’s your first use, you will be asked for your email address.
Safari will recognize your @owu.edu email.
Then you will be asked for your OWU account login.
And then you will access your resource:
Subsequent use on campus will result in this message when you click on a Safari link:
You may then be asked for your OWU login if you haven’t already logged in to access other resources.
When not on campus or the OWU network you will be asked for your email and OWU login, just as you were when you first accessed Safari on campus.
After your first time logging into Safari, you will receive an email from them. It will tell you more about their content and the mobile app. You can opt out of these emails:

As previously announced, this summer the Libraries changed the system used to provide access to our electronic resources. All users (whether on campus or remote) will now be asked to log in with their OWU credentials (same as OWU email). Users should only be prompted to log in once as long as they remain in the same browser.
- This will impact any saved links users may have, including those in Blackboard. Saved links and bookmarks will need updating but the old links should still be functional for awhile.
- This change will not affect the catalogs, so users will still be asked to enter their name and barcode when requesting materials from CONSORT or OhioLINK.
- This is a change all CONSORT schools made to ensure better access to library resources moving forward.
For any questions or to report issues, please email email@example.com.
New this semester, the Libraries will offer a Meditation & Reflection Space on the Third floor of Beeghly!
A pilot project based upon student suggestions and driven by a collaboration between the Chaplain’s Office and OWU Libraries, this neutral space is open to all at Ohio Wesleyan. It is a quiet place to reflect, meditate, pray, or just enjoy a few peaceful moments to unplug and melt away stress. We encourage visitors to view the guidelines of the space before use.
