Rojas Receives Grant for Digital Scholarship Project

Juan Armando Rojas, Ph.D., was recently awarded one of the Libraries’ Ohio Five Digital Scholarship grants, made possible through the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The goal of Rojas’s project—Digital Map of the Poetics of Hispanic American Literature: An Interactive and Hermeneutical Exegesis—is to create the digital cartography of a Hispanic American anthology literary work and urban art, which will form an essential part of the curriculum in two Latin American novel courses: SPAN 360: Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Mexican Literature and Popular Cultures, and SPAN 364: The Latin American Novel Within Its Revolutions, Cultures and Social Changes.

The digital map will be made available on a website where researchers, faculty members, and students from all over the world will be able to access it as a pedagogical and investigative tool. The book that will be the focus of the project is the anthology Sangre mía / Blood of Mine: Poetry of Border Violence, Gender and Identity in Ciudad Juárez that Rojas co-edited with Jennifer Rathbun, Ph.D. from Ashland University. Rojas is collaborating with instructional technologist David Soliday on the grant project and development of the interactive digital map.

Rojas’ project will add to the growing number of digital scholarship grants awarded to OWU faculty:

THE Desk – Introducing Beeghly’s New Service Point

This summer we have made the move to combine our reference desk with our circulation desk to form “The Desk.”  Liaison librarians, circulation staff, and library student workers will now be working side by side in this central location to assist you with research, access to materials, and more.

Besides sharing a physical space, reference and circulation staff will also be sharing a new email address and phone number.

Email: libraries@owu.edu

Phone: 740-368-3225

We are very excited about our merge and we hope you will find this new model more efficient and even easier to get the help you need at Beeghly Library.

IMPORTANT – OhioLINK Service Interruptions June 12th & 13th

The Libraries have been informed that all OH-TECH organizations, including OhioLINK, will be moving to a new data center. This move will require a significant outage of all OhioLINK hosted services for the following window:

Friday, June 12, 6pm – Saturday, June 13, 12pm (noon).

Services affected will include the Central Catalog, EJC, Databases, EBC and more. Please be sure to plan any usage of these tools and research accordingly. We will update you on any changes via the libraries’ blog.

Senior Due Date Reminder

With graduation fast approaching, please remember that most library items will be due soon for Seniors. We ask that, if possible, please return library items by May 4th. Additionally, please know that failure to return library items by the due date will result in the withholding of your university transcript. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Haley Kuhn at 740-368-3226 or hakuhn@owu.edu
