Government shutdown affects libraries

After Congress failed to reach an agreement on a short-term funding measure, the federal government shut down on Tuesday, October 1. As a result, the Library of Congress is closed to the public, and its Web sites are not accessible.

With the government shut down, we have also lost access to some government Web sites that provide statistical data. These include the Census Bureau, The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES), US Geological Survey (USGS) and more.

Please contact your librarian for assistance to find the data not accessible anymore on these government Web sites. Please note that Statistical Abstract of the United States provides access to some of this data.
