{"id":1640,"date":"2025-04-01T14:05:02","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T19:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/geog-292\/?p=1640"},"modified":"2025-04-01T14:05:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T19:05:02","slug":"powell-week-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/geog-292\/2025\/04\/01\/powell-week-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Powell Week 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hi, My name is Jes Powell and I am from the Cayman Islands.\u00a0 I am currently a senior and doing a major in Studio Art.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For Week 1 the first thing I did was look around my ArcGIS Online account which I was already semi familiar with as I took GEOG 291 during the first half of this semester.\u00a0 I looked at <\/span><b>My Settings, ESRI, Training, Community and Forums, ArcGISBlog and Help <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">which I had already seen some of these from the previous section of this class when one of the tutorials required us to create something on the website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When doing a read-through of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Get Started: What is ArcGIS Online<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it was pretty basic and standard information.\u00a0 It laid out the basics for using ArcGIS Online along with what it is useful for.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The training course, <\/span><b>ArcGIS Online Basics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was easy to follow through and had a visualization of the information presented which made it easier to understand.\u00a0 The quizzes were also easy to do and were placed in a way that made it easier to recap each section which was useful.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1642\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/geog-292\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/209\/2025\/04\/img-3-300x149.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/geog-292\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/209\/2025\/04\/img-3-300x149.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/geog-292\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/209\/2025\/04\/img-3.png 616w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The last thing I had to do for this week was to go on Google Scholar and look at something based on my own personal interests.\u00a0 I started with doing a general search of GIS applications related to birds and found an article on a Bird Migration and how ArcGIS online was used to create a story map that provides information on bird migration through animation maps that show the routes of different species of birds.\u00a0 My second search was related to the population of stray cats in specific areas which led me to an ArcGIS online story map which was not related to stray cats.
