The discussion will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Sept. 24.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kay interviewed the men for his book \u201cRockin\u2019 the Free World! How the Rock and Roll Revolution Changed America and the World.\u201d The discussion will cover \u201cthe role of rock and roll artists as troubadours carrying and amplifying critical social messages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nash will be sharing about the positive potential of music as a one-time member of the Hollies and a lead member of folk-rock band Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Shanker will discuss his work covering underground rock bands during the collapse of the Soviet Union while working as a Moscow correspondent. Tankian will speak about his work advancing recognition of the Armenian genocide and human rights. In addition to his Grammy-winning work with System of a Down (for \u201cB.Y.O.B.\u201d), Tankian co-founded the nonprofit organization Axis of Justice in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also discuss the press and artistic freedom and the perspectives both gained as a journalist and artist raising awareness of the Iraq war in the 2000s,\u201d Dr. Kay said. \u201cWe will conclude by looking forward to the role of artists today advancing change in America and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Submit your questions to the panel in advance to Dr. Kay at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:sikay@owu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sikay@owu.edu<\/a>.
