Professor and author Antonio Arregu\u00edn-Berm\u00fadez, Ph.D., of California State University, Chico will present a lunchtime lecture and evening book reading Nov. 17, bringing to life the oppressive, dangerous, and occasionally humorous experiences of Mexican immigrant farm workers in the United States.<\/p>\n
At 12:10 p.m. Nov. 17, Arregu\u00edn-Berm\u00fadez will present \u201cFinding a Life through Words and Learning: A Compelling Tale of Immigration to the U.S.\u201d during which he discusses his own journey. His talk, presented in English, will be held in Room 301 of Merrick Hall.<\/p>\n
From 6:30-8 p.m., Arregu\u00edn-Berm\u00fadez will give a bilingual reading of his published collection of stories \u201cBurnt Honey \/ Miel quemada\u201d in the Bayley Room on the second floor of Beeghly Library. His collection of linked stories in his book includes the journey of 14-year-old Little Clown, a young immigrant who finds hope through language. Little Clown\u2019s journey reflects Arregu\u00edn-Berm\u00fadez\u2019s own path in many ways \u2013 he also came to the United States alone, as a child, and found his way to a very different life through words and learning.<\/p>\n
