If you’ve ever wondered if students are grasping content in the classroom, try using polling. Polling allows all students to respond to a question (multi-choice or open-ended) and immediately aggregates responses. Some departments have clickers, but you can use a free site (polleverywhere.com) that turns students’ phones/computers into clickers. It is great for formative assessment and provides students with immediate feedback on their learning. Polling can also be used to anonymously gauge student attitudes or behaviors as a fun discussion starter. Plus, the software is very easy to learn!
