Statement of Purpose
The OWU Daily is an electronic campus newsletter compiled by the Office of University Communications. It is emailed to the campus community each weekday during the academic year, excluding official University holidays. It is published each Monday during the summer, excluding holidays. The OWU Daily seeks to keep the campus informed of important information while reducing bulk emails.
Submitting information to the OWU Daily
- Please submit all information using the OWU Daily’s online OWU Daily Submissions. For authentication purposes, you will be asked to log in with your OWU user name and password to access the form. Please submit items before 5 p.m. for publication in the next day’s OWU Daily.
- Before submitting events for publication, it is highly recommended that you complete a room reservation form and have confirmation of your reservation from the Calendar Coordinator’s Office. You are responsible for the accuracy of the dates, times, details, and space reservations. Submissions are reviewed for adherence to publication guidelines (see below), not for accuracy.
- Requests for members of the campus community to answer surveys or participate in research or video documentary projects must be tied to a specific class or registered student organization and must be approved by the faculty/staff advisor. OWU Daily survey submissions must include the specific class or organization involved and explain both whether the data will be anonymous and how the data will be used. Before submitting OWU Daily postings, students should work with faculty/staff to determine whether a project requires advance approval from the OWU Institution Review Board and/or signed consent forms from participants. OWU Daily submissions should note that research projects have received IRB approval, if applicable. Submissions also should note the requirement of signed consent forms, if applicable. Submissions without sufficient clarification will be rejected.
- The OWU Daily is not a forum for public debate or personal opinion, political statements or endorsements, advertisements, personal fundraising, or other announcements or promotions for outside organizations, outside vendors, or non-University related events. (Off-campus, nonprofit organizations affiliated with official OWU groups may work with an OWU liaison to have information submitted on their behalf. For example, a Pet Pals member may submit information about volunteer needs, etc., on behalf of the Humane Society of Delaware County.)
- If your event is postponed, canceled, or changed, please notify the OWU Daily right away by emailing updates-group@owu.edu.
Sections of The OWU Daily
- Campus News & Events – Featuring non-event-related news of interest to the full OWU campus community, such parking lot closures, scheduled software maintenance/outages, etc., in addition to events open to the full campus community and/or general public. Before submitting event information, it is highly recommended that you complete a room reservation form and have confirmation of your reservation from the Calendar Coordinator’s Office. Event reminders will be published no more than four times in OWU Daily, on dates you request. If registration, tickets, and/or fees are involved, please have complete information available before making your OWU Daily submission. Also, please notify editors right away by emailing updates-group@owu.edu if there is a change in the time, location, or other part of your event, or if the event is postponed or canceled.
- Student News & Events – Featuring information relevant primarily to OWU students. This includes events open to students but not intended for the full campus community or general public. Notices will be published only four times in OWU Daily, on dates you choose, and students will not be able to send bulk emails to the full student body related to their postings. Clubs and organizations may send notices about first meetings of the semester and/or new member recruitment for the first month of each semester only. Regular organization meeting notices should be communicated through other tools such as Facebook or Engage.
- Faculty/Staff News & Events – Featuring information relevant primarily to the OWU faculty and/or staff. This includes meetings and other events not open to the full campus community.
- University Classifieds – Featuring items for sale, lost-and-found, and similar “classifieds” of general campus interest. Only members of the OWU community may submit listings, and listings may not be made on behalf of third parties. Outside businesses and individuals wishing to advertise may contact The Transcript or, for employment opportunities, the Office of Career Services at careers@owu.edu.
All information submitted will be reviewed by the Office of University Communications prior to posting to ensure it meets the following criteria. Information may be edited at the editors’ discretion.
- Qualifies as University-related information. (For example, events must be sponsored by a University office, program, or official student, staff, or faculty organization. Events sponsored by local charities are important, but the University is unable to use this newsletter to promote such events unless they have an on-campus co-sponsor who submits information on the organization’s behalf.)
- Has relevance to a broad base of faculty, staff, or students.
- Contains the contributor’s name, sponsoring organization’s name, and OWU email address.
- Does not promote the sale of student-made food or food purchased off campus without the required permission.
- Does not represent vulgarity or sexually suggestive activity.
- Does not promote the use of alcohol or illegal substances.
- Does not promote gambling or any restricted/illegal activities.
- Does not indicate racial/ethnic/gender or religious insensitivity.
- Does not promote violence.
- Does not share personal opinion. (Submissions should be informational about programs, events, and/or opportunities without injecting political or other personal opinion.)
Thank you for helping us to make the OWU Daily a vital and successful component of campus life.
