Sept. 25 – Work Begins to Remove Dying Trees; S. Liberty St. Crosswalks Affected

During a recent tour of campus with a city arborist and with campus arborist Dr. David Johnson, professor of Botany/Microbiology, we identified three trees that, unfortunately, have begun to die and need to be removed for safety reasons. Two are located north of Sanborn Hall near Monnett Garden, and the third is located east of Bashford and Thomson Halls near the walkway that leads to South Liberty Street.

Work will begin Mon., Sept. 25, to take down these trees. Removal areas will be marked with caution tape, and we ask that pedestrians give the areas a wide berth.

Students are advised to use the crosswalks at the Park Avenue and Spring Street intersections during the tree-removal work, as the crosswalks leading to Rowland Ave. will be blocked.

Please know that we are committed to being good stewards of our beautiful, green campus. We will continue to replace trees that are removed with new plantings designed to fit into their surrounding and to enhance the campus environment. Thank you.
