OWU’s own Dr. David Caplan, professor of English, is featured on today’s “The Academic Minute,” sharing his thoughts on “Is Hip-Hop Poetry?”
“The Academic Minute” — hosted by Dr. Lynn Pasquerella, president of the Association of American Colleges and Universities — features a different professor each day, drawing experts from top colleges and universities from across the country.
In his book, “Rhyme’s Challenge: Hip Hop, Poetry, and Contemporary Rhyming Culture,” Caplan argues that hip-hop artists are the most daring, inventive, and sophisticated contemporary rhymers and examines three kinds of rhymes these artists favor.
But is it poetry? Listen here. Congratulations, Dr. Caplan!
