We’ll be tabling in Ham-Wil everyday until Apr. 27 collecting cash only donations for Instituto de Pesquisa dos Pretos Novos.
It’s a small library research institute and archaeological site about slave history in Rio de Janeiro. It used to be a place where they dumped people that did not make the trip.
Why are we collecting? Because it’s about to close down due to lack of funding from the Brazilian government.
Why does it matter? 2/3 of the people brought in the Transatlantic Slave Trade first landed in Brazil. Their work isn’t just important for Brazilian history but for the entire continent.
