Mar. 20 – Suicide Prevention & Research Lecture

OWU Department of Psychology — Invited Lecture:

Suicide Prevention & Research.

Presented by: John Ackerman, Ph.D.
Suicide Prevention Coordinator, NCH.

Mar. 20 at 4:30 p.m., Merrick Hall 301.

Major topics will include:

– community, school, and hospital efforts to educate others about the risks and warning signs of pediatric suicide.
– promoting evidence-based strategies to support individuals at risk for depression and suicide.

Dr. Ackerman obtained his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Delaware and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Ackerman has contributed to ongoing investigations at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s regarding risk factors for adolescent suicide. He examines how executive functioning, decision-making, and emotion regulation influence teens’ risk for suicidal behavior.
