Dear Campus Community,
AEP has determined the cause of the June 20 and July 20 power outages that impacted OWU’s central and academic campuses. The problem is tied to an AEP meter and requires two planned power outages in order for the company to make permanent repairs.
To accommodate this necessary work, OWU’s power will be turned off twice Thursday, July 28, to all buildings east of South Washington Street.
The first planned outage will be from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. July 28. At 7 a.m., power will be restored in most, but not all, areas. Power will be out for the full work day at Edwards Gym, Branch Rickey Arena, Elliott Hall, Sturges Hall, and the power plant/motor pool building.
The second planned outage will occur shortly after 5 p.m. and last for about 30 minutes. Following this work, power will be restored to the full campus.
While the issue is with AEP equipment, the OWU Buildings & Grounds team will use the planned outages to complete some preventive maintenance projects on the academic campus. Our work, coupled with AEP’s repairs, should result in a more stable power supply moving forward.
We have tried to proactively address issues related to the planned outages, but please contact me or your administrator if you have questions. Thank you for your support and patience as w AEP and OWU work to improve the campus.
