‘4 Corners for Peace: Building Peace in Northern Ireland,’ April 11

Join us Apr. 11 for “4 Corners for Peace: Building Peace in Northern Ireland” with the Rev. Steve Stockman and Father Martin Magill. The event is at 7 p.m.in the Milligan Hub inside Stuyvesant Hall.

Stockman and Magill are key players in the current peace efforts in Northern Ireland.

Stockman is the minister of Fitzroy Presbyterian Church in Belfast (winners of the Pax Christi Peace Prize), author of “Walk On: The Spiritual Journey of U2,” and a daily blogger at Soul Surmise where he writes about art, faith, and social justice.

Magill is the priest of Sacred Heart Parish in Belfast and holds a Master’s Degree in Ecumenism from Rome. The two jointly addressed the Sinn Féin annual conference (Ard Fheis) and penned an article for An Phoblacht, the monthly Sinn Féin publication, as a part of their series “Uncomfortable Conversations.”

Their address at the Ard Fheis focused on the 4 Corners Festival, which was created based on their earlier conversations. Both had traveled to unfamiliar parts of Belfast and were astonished and transfixed by what they discovered there. They hoped to prompt others to experience new areas of their city through a festival that would inspire people to keep crossing boundaries in their everyday lives.

During their Ohio Wesleyan talk, the men will be sharing their journey navigating social, religious, and political avenues to pursue peace and reconciliation.
