Perkins Observatory to Hold ‘Astronomy and…’ talk Oct. 8

Fans of poetry, Greek and Roman mythology, epic stories, and the beauty of the night are invited to attend Perkins Observatory’s upcoming “Astronomy and…” presentation.

The Oct. 8 event will feature Donald Lateiner, professor emeritus of humanities/classics at Ohio Wesleyan University. He will be speaking on “Astronomy and Astropoetry: The ‘Stars’ of Ancient Greek & Roman Epic and Lyric.”

Lateiner’s “Astronomy and” presentation will be held at 8 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23).

Tom Burns, director of Perkins Oberservatory, says: “Don is an dynamic speaker and great human being, who represents the best that Ohio Wesleyan has to offer. His good humor and engaging manner provide me with quite a bit of encouragement when I first started at Ohio Wesleyan 31 years ago. I used to stand outside his classroom and secretly listen to him teach, and say to myself, ‘I’d like to teach like that some day.’ I hope you all can join us for this very special event.”

Advance tickets for Lateiner’s “Astronomy and…” presentation are $8. Tickets are $2 more if purchased at the door. Call (740) 363-1257 for more information and to reserve tickets.
