The Delaware County Historical Society will present its next community history program on Thursday, Apr. 18, starting at 7 p.m. at The Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Rd., Delaware, in the newly renovated barn. The program topic will be Elmer Washington Bryant Curry, an African American born in 1871 and raised in Delaware. At age 17 he founded The Curry School and\u00a0dedicated his life to preparing African Americans with both an academic education and a practical trade to improve his students\u2019 lives and \u201cuplift\u201d African Americans in society.<\/p>\n
The program will be jointly presented by Benny Shoults, a Delaware County Historical Society volunteer and curator of the Meeker Homestead Museum, and Barbara Terzian, Associate Professor of History at Ohio Wesleyan University and a specialist in U.S. legal and women\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
The program is free and open to the public. There will be an opportunity to make a donation, which will help defray expenses. To ensure adequate seating, registration is strongly encouraged.
