Still space left! Join us in ENG 176.2 for a semester reading vengeance narratives from the past. In this class, we’ll ask why revenge has been such a persistent theme, and trace the origins of our fascination with vengeance in older ideas of honor, shame, justice, fatalism, and heroism. Our reading list includes Homer’s The Iliad, a medieval Legend of King Arthur, and concludes with the revenge dramas of Shakespeare, Titus Andronicus and Hamlet. We’ll also screen a few modern vengeance films: Coppola’s The Godfather and Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Coursework involves an exam and either a traditional paper or a creative project inviting you to create your own t.v. pilot with a vengeance theme. We meet T\/R 1:10-2:40.
