With the holiday season comes the 8 a.m. treks to class in freezing cold as you prepare for finals. Here are some tips on how to stay safe and warm on your walk!

1) Check the weather – and the windchill! The windchill describes how cold it feels outside and it may be much lower than the actual temperature, so it’s good to know what to prep for.

2) Stay hydrated. You may think about drinking water more during the summer, but drinking more water can actually keep you warmer by increasing your blood volume.

3) Dress for the weather. Even if it looks hardcore to rock the Birkenstocks in the cold, it is not a very wise choice. You should invest in waterproof boots and a waterproof jacket for the snow and ice over top of warm layers.

4) Be safe when drinking. Alcohol may make you feel artificially warm, but the cold weather can still hurt you. Bundle up and be safe when walking home after drinking.

Source:http://studentcaffe.com/thrive/student-safety/staying-safe-cold-climate.

OWU Sponsoring Organization/Office: Student Health Center.
Contact: Sarah Holmes at saholmes@owu.edu.

‘Tis the season!
