Now that Daylight Saving Time has ended, it gets darker earlier at night, making it more challenging for motorists to see you.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wear\u00a0reflective\u00a0clothing at night.<\/strong>\u00a0For those walking in the dark, clothes with large\u00a0reflective\u00a0stripes are recommended. Drivers may not see you if you have only one or two small\u00a0reflective\u00a0patches on your clothing. Many backpacks and shoes also use\u00a0reflective\u00a0materials to add visibility.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cross streets only at marked crosswalks or corners, and proceed only when the appropriate \u201cwalk\u201d signal is displayed (if applicable).\u00a0<\/strong>Be sure to push the \u201cwalk\u201d activation buttons where available. At some intersections in the city, \u201cwalk\u201d signals will be displayed ONLY if activation buttons are pushed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Look left, right, and left again\u00a0before entering a crosswalk.\u00a0<\/strong>Even if you have the right of way, check both ways to ensure that motorists see you and have stopped to allow you to cross.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make eye contact with drivers<\/strong>\u00a0whenever possible before crossing the street and watch especially for vehicles that are turning or backing up.
