TONIGHT! Keith LaMar was unjustly condemned to death by an all-white jury following the 1993 Lucasville Prison Uprising in southern Ohio. Tonight at 7 p.m. in Benes Room B, Students for Decarceration will screen the documentary film \u201cCondemned,\u201d which focuses on Keith and the injustices of his trial. We will then have a phone conversation with Keith.<\/p>\n
The State of Ohio wants to set an execution date, and Keith’s attorneys have recently filed a response contesting this: “An execution date should not be scheduled because Mr. LaMar\u2019s death sentence is precisely the sort identified as inappropriate by the Joint Task Force to Review the Administration of Ohio\u2019s Death Penalty. Mr. LaMar\u2019s conviction rests on prisoner testimony which is not independently corroborated; there is no physical or video evidence linking him to the crimes and he has always maintained his innocence. Evidence supporting Mr. LaMar\u2019s innocence is slowly coming to light after dogged efforts to unearth such proof.”<\/p>\n
