OWU\u2019s Hispanic Film Festival kicks off this fall with a screening and discussion of \u201cThe Liberator”, in CORN Building, Room 312. Rising Venezuelan actor Edgar Ram\u00edrez stars in this biopic of one of Latin America\u2019s greatest figures. Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar fought over 100 battles against the Spanish Empire in South America. His military campaigns covered twice the territory of those of Alexander the Great. But his army never conquered \u2013 it liberated.<\/p>\n

The most expensive Latin American film ever produced, “The Liberator” is a riveting portrayal of the man who led Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Peru and Ecuador toward independence. The Liberator was shortlisted with eight other titles for the Best Foreign Academy Award and was the favorite Venezuelan film at the local box office. Dir. Alberto Arvelo \/ Venezuela, Spain \/ 119 min \/ 2014 \/ Spanish with English subtitles.<\/p>\n
