Harold Edward Pinkston Sr., Ph.D., an OWU professor for nearly 30 years, passed away Oct. 8 at age 94.<\/p>\n<p>The Rev. Dr. Pinkston joined the Ohio Wesleyan faculty in 1970, teaching English, Humanities-Classics, and Black World Studies until retiring at the end of the 1996-1997 academic year. He also served for a time as a faculty member at the Methodist Theological School in Delaware and as a visiting professor at the Pontifical College of Josephinum in Worthington.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dignitymemorial.com\/obituaries\/hampton-va\/harold-pinkston-13068235\">his obituary<\/a>, his family shares that in 1976 he organized and founded The Good Shepherd Baptist Church of Columbus, his fifth pastorate, as well as The Good Shepherd School of Biblical and Cognate Learning in 1978.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his life, the Rev. Dr. Pinkston earned multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in English, Languages, and Literature; Bachelor of Divinity; Master of Divinity in Theology; Master of Arts in Liberal Studies; Doctor of Philosophy in Literature (English) with distinction; and Doctor of Theology summa cum laude. While pursuing his first doctoral degree, he studied in Africa at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana; the University Institute for Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana; and the University of Liberia in Monrovia, West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Please join us in sharing our deepest sympathies with the family and friends of the Rev. Dr. Pinkston and in remembering his legacy as one of OWU\u2019s earliest tenured Black faculty members.
