{"id":129176,"date":"2025-12-04T08:00:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T13:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/daily\/?p=129176"},"modified":"2025-12-04T08:08:01","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T13:08:01","slug":"celebrate-home-for-the-holidays-dec-5-7-with-tree-lighting-skating-parade-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.owu.edu\/daily\/celebrate-home-for-the-holidays-dec-5-7-with-tree-lighting-skating-parade-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate &#8216;Home for the Holidays&#8217; Dec. 5-7 with Tree Lighting, Skating, Parade, More!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN\">Main Street Delaware\u2019s ninth annual \u201cHome for the Holidays\u201d will feature the First Friday lighting of the community Christmas tree, \u201cglice\u201d skating, carriage rides, \u201cDash for Dasher\u201d scavenger hunt, Christmas Parade, Great Gingerbread Build-Off, and, of course, Santa Claus!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The celebration begins\u00a0<strong>Friday,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Dec. 5<\/strong>, at 5 p.m. with an evening of family-friendly fun that includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Lighting the community Christmas tree, with remarks at 6:30 p.m. at the main stage\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">on South Sandusky Street in front of City Hall.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Carolers and live musical performances at the main stage\u00a0from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Free iceless \u201cglice\u201d skating from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. behind the Delaware Welcome Center (20 E. William Street).<\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Horse-drawn carriage rides boarding outside\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">HQ, 1 W. Winter St. (Cost is $2 per person and free for children 6 and under.) Carriage rides also will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Walk-in\u00a0visits with Santa from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the Main Street Delaware Welcome Center, 20 E. William St.<span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0(Meeting Santa is free, and includes one<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0professional photo\u00a0print and digital copy\u00a0from For His Glory Photography. Additional prints, if desired, will be $5 each.) Santa will be at the center on Fridays and Saturdays through Dec.\u00a020. Reservations are required for most times. For a list of Santa House times and to reserve space, visit\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1764939812702000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0uVxSVfc4BrNHIQRzSX3Qw\">www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown<\/a><span lang=\"EN\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Downtown shopping and store specials throughout the \u201cHome for the Holidays\u201d weekend, Dec.\u00a05-7.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cHome for the Holidays\u201d continues\u00a0<strong>Saturday,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Dec. 6<\/strong>, with another day of fun events, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">The annual \u201cDash for Dasher\u201d scavenger hunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">Follow clues to help Santa find Dasher the Reindeer while completing crafts and other fun activities. (Begin the hunt at Fresh Start Cafe &amp; Bakery, 24 N. Sandusky St., which will provide the first clue.) There\u2019s no cost to participate in \u201cDash for Dasher,\u201d but boxes of cereal and monetary donations will be accepted to benefit local food pantries.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Visits with Santa from 1<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">1 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Main Street Delaware Welcome Center. Walk-ins are welcome from 11 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required between\u00a0noon\u00a0and 3 p.m. via\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1764939812702000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0uVxSVfc4BrNHIQRzSX3Qw\">www.mainstreetdelaware.com\/christmas-in-downtown<\/a><span lang=\"EN\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Free\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cglice\u201d\u00a0skating\u00a0behind the Delaware Welcome Center. Those age 10 and under are invited to learn to skate with the Westerville Warcats hockey teams from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Skating for all ages will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN\">Main Street Delaware\u2019s second annual Great Gingerbread Build-Off at COhatch, 18 E. William St. Registration of $25 will include a basic gingerbread house kit; registrants are welcome to bring glitter, sprinkles, icing, props, and other add-ons. Registrants are asked to bring their own base no larger than 20\u2033x20\u2033 to build on. COhatch will open at 3:30 p.m., and the competition will begin at 4 p.m. Judging and community voting will begin at 7:15 p.m., with each vote cast by tickets available for purchase for $1 each. We&#8217;ll award the People\u2019s Choice based on which entry receives the most tickets. All donations will support Main Street Delaware, a\u00a0<em>501(c)(3) nonprofit organization creating a vibrant downtown experience for all!<\/em> A panel of judges will award ribbons to first, second, and third places. We encourage creativity, so come ready to showcase your gingerbread skills!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">On\u00a0<strong>Sunday,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Dec. 7<\/strong>, \u201cHome for the Holidays\u201d features Main Street Delaware\u2019s annual Christmas Parade. WSYX-ABC 6 journalist Tom Bosco will serve as master of ceremonies, announcing each parade entry. This year\u2019s grand marshal is Heidi Kegley, former superintendent of Delaware City Schools, and the parade theme is \u201cLight the Night\u201d! The parade will kick off from Mingo Park at 6 p.m. Sunday and travel south through the downtown to Wilmer Street. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Before the parade, free \u201cglice\u201d skating will be available for all ages from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. behind the Delaware Welcome Center. In addition, the Ross Art Museum will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., with guests able to <\/span>create make-and-take egg carton penguin families.
