2024 Smith Lecture: Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. – \u00a0A Tale of Two Slave Traders: Lincoln and the Destruction of the Transatlantic Slave Trade<\/em><\/p>\n

The Department of History is pleased to welcome\u00a0Jonathan W. White, Ph.D.<\/a> a professor of American Studies at Christopher Newport University. He is the author or editor of 19 books, including his 2022 book A House Built By Slaves: African American Visitors to the Lincoln White House<\/a><\/em>, which was co-winner of the 2023 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize. One of his books published in 2023 \u00a0Shipwrecked: A True Civil War Story of Mutinies, Jailbreaks, Blockade-Running, and the Slave Trade<\/a><\/em>\u00a0will be a springboard for the upcoming Smith Lecture.<\/p>\n

The lecture will take place on Sept. 30, 2024, at 7 p.m. in Benes Rooms AB in HWCC. This lecture is free and open to the public.
