“The Holocaust Makes Us ‘Black’–Israel Makes Us ‘White’: Jews, Race, and Antisemitism”<\/p>\n

Are Jews white? Is anti-Zionism discrimination against Jews? In recent years, anti-racist activists have turned their attention to the dynamic between Palestinians and the State of Israel. Many American Jews, however, see no tension between their anti-racist commitments and their defense of Israel. In this presentation, Dr. Elliot Ratzman will help clarify the entangled histories of Jews, racism, and Zionism.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ratzman teaches courses on ethics, Judaism and race in the Religion Department at Earlham College. He is a long-time activist for racial and economic justice, health care equity, and Jewish\/Palestinian reconciliation. He is finishing his first book, Zipporah’s Knife: A Jewish Reckoning with Race.<\/p>\n
