She was 82.<\/p>\n<p>Jann worked at Ohio Wesleyan for nearly 50 years, serving as an Environmental Health and Safety expert and an adjunct professor of Botany-Microbiology. After retiring in 2011, she continued to work in environmental microbiology research and consulting. She concentrated these efforts on applied avian microbiology and composting poultry feathers.<\/p>\n<p>As her family shares, Jann passed \u201cafter eight decades of joy and love. \u2026 Jann was a teacher of microbiology, swimming, cycling, and white-water boating. She loved line dancing, Tai Chi, and hunting morel mushrooms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No calling hours are scheduled, but memories and condolences may be expressed through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snyderfuneralhomes.com\/obituaries\/Jann-Machotka-Ichida?obId=29857417\">Snyder Funeral Homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Contributions in Jann\u2019s memory are suggested to the O\u2019Neal-Jones-Burns-Shirling Fund at Ohio Wesleyan. Gifts may be made online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.owu.edu\/give\">www.owu.edu\/give<\/a>, by selecting \u201cOther\u201d in the designation field and typing in \u201cO\u2019Neal Fund for Decker\/Ichida Award.\u201d The Jane Decker\/Allan Ichida Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Botany and Microbiology is named in remembrance of Jann\u2019s husband of 47 years, Allan Ichida \u201953, OWU professor emeritus of Botany-Bacteriology.
