Smith Lecture in Civil War History at 7:30 pm in Benes A-B (Hamilton-Williams Campus Center). Janney, winner of the 2022 Gilder-Lehrman Lincoln Prize, will share \u201cAn End or Beginning: Lee\u2019s Army after Appomattox.\u201d Appomattox has long served to mark the end of the American Civil War, but, in reality, it has \u201ca far more contentious, uncertain, ambiguous, and lengthy ending,\u201d says Janney, the John L. Nau III Professor of the American Civil War at the University of Virginia.
