Bethany Herbst
5th Grade Math & Science Teacher – Columbus City SchoolsBiography
Bethany graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She is licensed Pre-K through 3rd grade and holds a 4/5 Generalist Endorsement. Bethany is currently a 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher at Stewart Alternative Elementary School within Columbus City Schools, where she has served in this role for the past seven years.
Throughout her career, Bethany has taught across a variety of settings, including 2nd grade at a private school, 4th grade Social Studies at a charter school, and 3rd grade at a charter school. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she serves as the math lead and content expert at her school and manages the school’s social media accounts and website. She works closely with her grade-level teammate and staff members to thoughtfully plan and prepare rigorous, engaging instruction for students.
Bethany prides herself on building strong relationships with her students and supporting their growth both academically and personally. She is passionate about mentoring new teachers and education majors, providing hands-on, real-world experiences that help them explore and navigate the field of education. She is happy to assist in the following ways:
– Speaking with a student 1:1 on campus
– Speaking with a student virtually or on the phone
– Presenting to a class in-person
– Mentoring a student
– Assisting OWU Alumni (recent Alumni, or Alumni in transition)
– Hosting a student for an externship or shadowing experience
– Hosting a “Career Trek/visit” with a group of students & OWU staff
