Biography

After a gap year gaining experience as an environmental educator, Meigan returned to school and earned a master’s degree in biology from Bowling Green State University. Her master’s thesis examined how the quality of nectar available in Karner blue butterfly habitats could affect their repopulation success.

After graduating in 2020, Meigan continued to advance her career in land management by working as a technician with The Nature Conservancy and Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks. She received extensive training in using field equipment, removing invasive species, harvesting native seeds, conducting biological surveys, and assisting with prescribed fires. Since 2022, Meigan has been the Operations Manager of the Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center. The Outdoor Education Center transforms the Glen Helen Nature Preserve into an outdoor classroom, providing unique, hands-on learning experiences for thousands of children each year. In her role, she is responsible for general office management and supporting staff in producing high-quality educational programs.

Meigan is happy to assist anyone interested in the field of conservation and or environmental education. She is looking forward to working with OWU Students in the following ways:

  • Speaking with a student 1:1 on campus
  • Speaking with a student virtually or on the phone
  • Mentoring a student
  • Assisting OWU Alumni (recent Alumni, or Alumni in transition)
  • Hosting a “Career Trek/visit” with a group of students & OWU staff

During her time at OWU, Meigan studied Zoology and Environmental Science. She was a student athlete who played on the volleyball and track & field teams. She was also a member of the Ohio Wesleyan Athletic Council.
