Biography

Dr. David Gatz is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Assistant Medical Director of the Adult Emergency Department. Administratively he is focused on quality improvement and patient safety, especially as it relates to the care of patients with sepsis, heart attacks, and strokes. He is involved in advancing the field of emergency medicine nationally as part of AAEM’s national Clinical Practice Committee, ACEP’s national Clinical Policies Subcommittee, as part of the Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Section leadership of ACEP, and as chair of MDACEP’s Practice Management Committee. Clinically he is passionate about neurologic emergencies and the management of solid organ transplant recipients in the ED. You can find him eagerly discussing these topics on national podcasts. He has several published reviews dedicated to these topics as well.

David is interested in working with pre-health/medicine students who are working towards medical school, and ultimately, careers in healthcare. He is open to:

  • Presenting to a class in-person
  • Presenting to a student organization
  • Conducting a virtual webinar
  • Mentoring a student
  • Hosting a student for an externship or shadowing experience
  • Hosting a Career Tre/visit with a group of students & OWU staff

David Gatz graduated from OWU where he majored in Biochemistry, Pre-Professional Zoology, and Pre-Medicine. He was also a member of the Varsity Swimming team.
